Firefighters tackle bedroom blaze in Lawrence

LAWRENCE -- A fire on Tuesday evening damaged one side of a two-family home in the 900 block of Lanning Avenue, about a block from the Brunswick Avenue traffic circle and near the township border with Trenton.
The blaze, reported about 9:35 p.m., started inside the front bedroom on the second floor of the left side of the 2-1/2-story duplex.The fire remains under investigation, but firefighters said a space heater may have been the cause.
Firefighters said the blaze was contained to the room where it started. There were no injuries reported.
Crews from Slackwood, Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, Prospect Heights, Pennington Road, and Enterprise fire companies fought the blaze under the command of Slackwood Fire Chief Robert Santello.
2 people displaced by fire at 2-family home
LAWRENCE - A fire that began when a space heater was placed too close to a mattress damaged one side of a two-family home in the 900 block of Lanning Avenue Tuesday evening, fire officials reported.
Slackwood Fire Chief Robert Santello said a front bedroom was damaged by the fire, and smoke and water damage occurred throughout the house. Two residents were displaced by the fire, Santello said. No one was injured.
The blaze, reported about 9:35 p.m., started inside the front bedroom on the second floor of the left side of the 2 1/2-story duplex.
Santello said one of the residents prevented the fire from getting worse by closing the bedroom door when he heard the smoke detectors in the house going off.
Crews from Slackwood, Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, Prospect Heights, Pennington Road and Enterprise fire companies fought the blaze.
