WEST WINDSOR -- A serious crash on Route 1 Tuesday night apparently was caused by a driver running a red light, police said.

Police said that Keith Toth, a 48-year-old Plainsboro resident, was driving north on Route 1 around 11:30 p.m. A car driven by Brooke O'Brien, 19 of Hightstown, was heading east on Washington Road (Route 571) into the Route 1 intersection at the same time.

Police said it appears that O'Brien went through the intersection when the light was red, colliding with Toth's car.

Firefighters needed to extricate a passenger from O'Brien's car, who was taken to Capital Health System at Fuld hospital with injuries that were serious but not believed to be life-threatening.

Toth was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton with unspecified injuries and was later released. O'Brien and the other passenger in her car were taken to the University Medical Center at Princeton and later released.

WEST WINDSOR - Four people were injured - one seriously - in a two-vehicle accident that occurred late Tuesday night, emergency officials at the scene confirmed.

The collision between a car and a pickup truck happened about 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of Route 1 and Washington Road (Route 571).

One of the car's passengers was trapped in the wreckage and had to be extricated by firefighters.

Working under the direction of Princeton Junction Fire Chief Dennis Huber, crews from the Princeton Junction and West Windsor fire companies cut away the car's roof and pried open the mangled passenger's side doors to rescue the trapped man.

Once freed, the man was loaded into a West Windsor ambulance and rushed to the trauma center at Capital Health System at Fuld hospital in Trenton, officials said.

The three other victims, whose injuries were not as serious, were transported to area hospitals by West Windsor and Plainsboro ambulance crews.

The center and right northbound lanes of Route 1 and the stretch of Washington Road between Route 1 and Fairview Avenue were closed to traffic to allow police to investigate the accident.
