ROBBINSVILLE -- A woman was seriously injured Thursday when her sport utility vehicle slammed into a tree after rear-ending another vehicle on Route 130, police said.

The accident occurred a little before 5:15 p.m. on Route 130, just south of Meadowbrook Road, when the northbound SUV being driven by a 38-year-old Millstone woman hit the rear of another northbound SUV being operated by a 34-year-old Robbinsville woman, according to township Police Officer James Moore, who is leading the investigation.

Following that impact, he said, the 38-year-old lost control of her SUV, which veered onto the highway's median and then crossed the southbound lanes before striking a tree. The woman, whose name was not released Thursday night, was trapped in the wreckage and had to be extricated by township firefighters.

Once freed, she was rushed by ambulance to the trauma center at Capital Health System at Fuld hospital in Trenton, where she was in critical condition Thursday night, Moore said.

The other driver, whose name was also withheld, was able to bring her vehicle to a stop on the shoulder of the northbound lanes and was not injured, Moore said.

While the northbound lanes of Route 130 were only briefly shut down because of the crash, the southbound lanes were closed for at least two hours while police investigated.

Assisting Moore with the investigation is the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office.

ROBBINSVILLE -- A 38-year-old Millstone woman remained in serious condition Friday after an accident at 5:15 p.m. Thursday on Route 130, south of Meadowbrook Road, police said.

Antonia K. Farkas's sport utility vehicle struck a car driven by Jennifer Paszkiewicz, 34, of Robbinsville, Detective Peter Galazka said. Farkas' car, which was headed north, "just tapped" the other vehicle, but it caused Farkas to lose control, he said. The SUV veered onto the median, then crossed the southbound lanes before hitting a tree, he said.

At one point the SUV was airborne, Galazka said. Farkas was trapped in the wreckage and had to be extricated by township firefighters, then taken to Capital Health Medical Center at Fuld. Paszkiewicz was not injured.

The accident is still under investigation, Galazka said.
