Point Pleasant Beach, NJ--A fire tore through a taxpayer at Arnold Ave and Route 35 around 2 a.m. on August 26, 2009 that left eleven homeless and businesses closed. Close to 100 volunteers fought the blaze for three hours. Several minor injuries were reported to firefighters and tenants and they were treated by EMS on scene. Adjacent to the well involved structure was a Foodtown Supermarket and an antique store and efforts kept flames spreading to those structures in Point Pleasant's Business District.

It was reported that the preliminary investigation revealed the cause of the fire was from discarded smoking material.

Responding companies: Ocean Fire Company No.1 from Point Pleasant Beach; Point Pleasant Beach Fire Co. No. 2; Point Pleasant Fire Companies No. 1 and No.2; Laurelton and South Wall ( the FAST Team). Area communities were covered during the fire by Bay Head. EMS was handled by Point Pleasant Boro First Aid and Emergency Squad and Point Pleasant Beach First Aid.
