Secaucus--On October 10, 2009 the Secaucus fire dept was dispatched to 716, 3rd street for a report of a basement fire. first arriving chief reported heavy smoke coming out of a 2 1/2 story frame. first arriving engine companies found heavy fire in the basement. command transmitted a 2nd alarm several attempts were made to reach the basement but due to the heavy heat and smoke and with the fire know on the first floor command was forced to evacuate the building. Numerous hand lines were placed in service from the exterior. A third alarm was transmitted as the truck company vented the roof. There was a collapse on the first floor and during overhaul a mayday was transmitted for a firefighter stuck in the floor. The firefighter was removed from the building uninjured. The cause of the fire is unknown.
