KENDALL PARK, NJ - At 2:34 p.m. on Saturday
October 3, 2009 the Kendall Park Volunteer Fire Co. was dispatched to a working
garage fire.
Upon arrival less than a minute after dispatch Chief Perez established command
and reported that the 50x30 garage was fully involved. Engine 221 arrived and
lead off the attack with two 2-1/2 inch lines while the crew of Ladder 223 along
with the crew of Engine 204 from the Monmouth Junction Volunteer Fire Department
assisted in stretching 500 feet of 5' supply line. The fire was under control in
about twenty minutes.
The fire was particularly difficult to fight due to the fact that it was well
advanced by the time it was reported and the building was located approximately
600 feet down a long tight driveway.
Assisting at the scene were members of the Monmouth Junction Volunteer Fire
Department, the Kingston Volunteer Fire Company and the Franklin Park Volunteer
Fire Company. The Kendall Park First Aid Squad provided rehab for firefighters
along with treating a friend of the homeowner for minor burns to his hand he
received while trying to extinguish the fire prior to the fire departments
arrival.
